Runner-up entry in our ‘Your Shot’ photo competition, captured in South Georgia, Antarctica.
This was taken in February 2012 whilst on an expedition cruise that took us to some extraordinary places in South Georgia.
A ruined whaling station spoke of an industry of long ago. It was a spectacular day, although very cold.
While others explored the whaling station, I wandered off and found this old dock with a rusty whaler beached up on the rocks.
I was especially taken by the bright red shack in contrast to the earth tones of the land. I took the image with a Canon 40D and 85-205mm lens at 100mm, ISO 100, F8, 1/200 sec.
