Discover the secret places amongst the jewel-like aqua waters of Sardinia, and the charmed villages and verdant countryside of Italy.
Welcome to Italy, home to gastronomic delights, architectural history and much of the world’s must-see art such as David by Michelangelo, The Last Supper by Leonardo and the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. Italy is a destination with it all, from stunning lakes with alpine backdrops in the north to the sun-kissed beaches and active volcanoes of the south.
In between, visit picturesque olive groves and vineyards in rolling, lush countryside, and quaint villages clinging to rugged cliffs presiding over the warm, azure waters.
The paths less travelled
There are 17 regions that make up Italy, and Tempo Holidays want to share their secrets to the best locations off the beaten track and away from the crowds – with Puglia, on the country’s south-eastern coast and making up the ‘heel’ on Italy’s ‘boot’, being a firm favourite.
If you are wanting to stay away from other travellers and the crowds in Amalfi Coast and Tuscany, head to Lecce of Puglia, one of many lesser-known but no less beautiful towns. The seaside region is much quieter, and offers architectural surprises around every corner filled with cafes, bars and restaurants, and the charming sight of nonnas strolling down the postcard-perfect streets.
Soak up the Sardinian sun
Sardinia has everything you could ever hope for when it comes to culture, and there are also some hidden gems that Tempo Holidays can’t wait to show you. Cala Goloritze could easily be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, thanks to its unspoilt, difficult-to-reach location. The beach is only accessible by boat or via a hike, and it is completely closed to traffic to preserve the beach’s sun-glistened white sand and translucent, crystalline blue waters.
On the eastern coast of Sardinia, Ogliastra does not disappoint. As one of the least populated provinces in Italy, it is perfect for hiking and is dominated by stunning mountains and rolling hills, where you can feel like you are in a haven surrounded by nothing by nature.
