This coastal paradise is a favourite for its azure waters and dramatic limestone cliffs. Island-hop to beautiful beaches for snorkelling and diving the offshore coral reefs or head inland to national parks that boast hot springs and lush forests.
Ao Nang, a seaside strip of guesthouses, hotels, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops, is the jumping off point for boat trips to Koh Lanta or the nearby Phi Phi islands in Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, where you can relax and recharge or indulge in some water sports.
Soak in the hot springs of Namphu Ron Khem Khlong Thom, where 14 natural mineral springs bubble up, or head to Namtok Ron, in the middle of a shady forest, where more hot natural springs await.
Hike the 1260 steps to the Tiger Cave Temple, also known as Wat Tham Suea, a sacred site in Krabi. Your effort will be rewarded with expansive views of the surrounding countryside.
Before you leave, check out the great market shopping at Maharaj Walking Street and Chao Fah Pier Night Market for the perfect souvenir.
2. Siem Reap, Cambodia

Ancient wonders and timeless architecture are waiting to be explored in Siem Reap. Watching the sun rise over the World Heritage-listed temple complex of Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious structure, is not to be missed – but there’s also so much more to discover.
Siem Reap blends history and tradition with a laid-back, friendly vibe, with tuk-tuk rides through town, delicious street food, lively night markets and cultural performances that bring Cambodia’s stories to life. For nightlife with a difference, book a seat under the big top to support the non-profit Phare Circus, where Cambodian storytelling, live music and astounding acrobatics come together.
For an experience that will teach you more about part of Cambodia’s modern history, visit APOPO to meet the ‘hero rats’ trained to safely detect land mines. A tour of this non-profit enterprise will introduce you to the giant African pouched rats who sniff out danger and disease, working to help make landmines and tuberculosis things of the past.
3. Cebu, Philippines

A lively blend of city vibes, tropical beaches, majestic waterfalls and rich cultural traditions, Cebu Island is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Philippines.
Jump on a colourful jeepney to explore Cebu City, the oldest city in the Philippines, with plenty of Spanish-era heritage sites to enthral history buffs. Head to the 18th-century Fort San Pedro for a quiet retreat and immerse yourself in local culture. Dine on fresh seafood, traditional lechon (roast pig) and other street food while wandering the colourful markets.
The southern part of Cebu, around the town of Oslob, offers lots of adventure, from canyoneering at Kawasan Falls to whale shark watching (best between November and June). Nearby Tumalog Falls is an Instagrammer’s delight for its aquamarine pool.
