Inside The Ritz-Carlton's first-ever tented safari camp

The juggernaut hotelier is opening a new chapter of tented luxury in Kenya’s Masai Mara.
Camping doesn’t have to mean roughing it. In fact, tented camps are emerging as the new form of luxury stay. Indeed, it doesn’t get much more exclusive than being totally immersed in the wilderness while still having every creature comfort at your fingertips. High-end hoteliers have been adding canvas-clad retreats to their portfolios, and the results are every bit as luxe as their bricks-and-mortar counterparts. Now, the crème de la crème of hotel luxury, The Ritz-Carlton, is opening its tent doors with its first safari offering in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Park. Here’s what we know so far about The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp.

The Ritz-Carlton will debut its Masai Mara Safari Camp, containing 20 luxury suites.
An African safari is a cornerstone of a luxury travel experience. And in August, The Ritz-Carlton will add to the luxury offering with its tented camp debut in the heart of the Masai Mara. Perched above the banks of the Sand River, this exclusive retreat will contain 20 lavish suites in prime position to watch the Great Migration, complete with infinity plunge pools and private butler service. And when guests aren’t soaking in the views from their suite, they can enjoy wildlife spotting on game drives, soaring above the Mara and Serengeti from a hot-air balloon, and spa treatments rooted in local healing. The elegant bush-luxe design is courtesy of visionary design firm LW Design Group. Think sunken lounges, outdoor showers and decor that showcases exquisite Kenyan artistry.

The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp will be perched on the Sand River and offer incredible views of the Great Migration.
Food will draw inspiration from African flavours and the surrounding landscape, drawing on locally sourced ingredients, with a wine list curated from the camp’s very own private cellar. And best of all? There will be a sky deck for stargazing and dining under the stars. All in all, it’s a modern African safari experience wrapped up in Ritz-Carlton’s signature brand of luxury.
