Berlin is moving and changing at lightning speed, so we asked Serdar Kutucu, Vice President of Brand, Marketing and Communications at Design Hotels, to give us the lowdown on what’s new and fab.
1. Destination: food
Nobelhart & Schmutzig and Industry Standard are recent restaurant additions that are cementing the city as a dining destination. For that intangible Berlin vibe, foodie festivals Street Food Thursday and Bite Club are great for people-watching.
2. Culturally refined
C/O Berlin is an exceptional photography gallery housed in Amerika Haus. Designed by architect Bruno Grimmek in 1956, the building is an icon.
3. Dancin’ to the music
Bar 3 in Mitte is a little gem – I’m a big fan of the circular bar, music, and the mix of creatives.
I love both Vitra and Artek, so the joint concept store, Vitra loves Artek in the Bikini Berlin mall, is a match made in design heaven. The Arkonaplatz flea market is also full of great design finds, and less chaotic than the karaoke/flea market, Mauerpark.
5. Family fun
Nothing says Berlin more than Tempelhofer Feld on a Sunday afternoon. From families grilling to kiteboarders to urban gardeners, you’ll find it all here at the defunct-airport-turned-park.
