A new luxury train operating along the ancient Silk Road means passengers can explore the epic route in style.
The name ‘Silk Road’ is a bit of a misnomer. It wasn’t just a single road, but a vast network of trade routes stretching over 6,400 km, linking Asia with the Middle East and Europe. And silk was far from the only thing transported – spices, precious metals, minerals, artworks and more journeyed across continents along this epic path.
The Golden Eagle Silk Road Express is a brand new train transporting travellers across uncharted Asia in luxury.
Regardless, the Silk Road helped shape the world as we know it. For more than 1,500 years – from the Han dynasty’s opening of trade in 130 BCE to 1453 CE – it was travelled by everyone from humble merchants to kings like Alexander the Great.

Back then, the journey was made by camel, ox, horse, or on foot. But today, you can experience the same route in total luxury. UK-based Golden Eagle Luxury Trains has unveiled the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express, a new luxury train and itinerary designed to carry modern adventurers through some of the Silk Road’s most fascinating and remote regions, from China to Turkmenistan. Golden Eagle Silk Road Express is a private en-suite private touring train, complete with exquisite onboard fine dining and luxury cabins. It’s a far cry from the ox and cart of yesteryear.
The sleek dining car onboard the train harkens back to the Golden Age of rail travel.
Introducing the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express
Alongside the new train, Golden Eagle will launch a 22-day journey, the Grand Silk Road, set to depart in 2026. The itinerary combines travel on both the new train and the classic Golden Eagle, beginning in Beijing and continuing across China and into the heart of Central Asia through Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Fine dining onboard is a central tenet of the experience onboard the Golden Eagle Silk Road Express.
Along the way, you’ll visit UNESCO-listed sites, explore ancient cities, and immerse yourself in vibrant local cultures. Then it’s back to your luxury carriage to unwind like a sultan as the train whisks you towards your next destination.
Short on time? You can experience the Silk Road in smaller bites. Journey through the dynasties on the 12-day Ancient China by Private Train, or cross the ‘roof of the world’ on the 13-day China & Tibet Rail Discovery.
