Here are some handy tips and tricks to make sure you have a great time in Paris.
- Sunday is a day of rest in Paris so don’t expect everything to be open.
Many shops, including the big department stores such as Galleries Lafayette and Printemps, as well as most of the luxury brands, are closed all day.
- Museums also have a day off during the week, usually either Monday or Tuesday, so check opening hours before setting off across town only to find them fermé.
- Paris is filled with world-famous museums which absolutely everyone wants to see, so queues for tickets and entry outside some of them can be very long.
You can beat the lines by purchasing a Paris Museum Pass; a two-day pass costs EURO39 for an adult (three- and five-day passes are also available) and affords unlimited entry to museums and attractions; it also allows you to whizz past most queues (except where security screening is required).
Children under 18 get free entry to most sites and museums in France.

- The Metro is a great way to get around town – it is cheap, extremely efficient and very clean.
Invest in a small Metro map when you arrive or buy a Paris map with a Metro map on it to work out connections and lines which are numbered and colour-coded.
