Tent stays don’t come much more glamorous than this – Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains.
Rock the kasbah in this exotic retreat owned by none other than Richard Branson – a small souvenir from one of his hot air ballooning adventures.
Set at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, Kasbah Tamadot is one hour’s drive from Marrakech but feels like a million miles from anywhere.
The retreat is a treasure trove of artefacts and antiques brought to Morocco by renowned art collector Luciano Tempo.
Each of the 18 rooms and suites is uniquely designed and decorated with traditional Moroccan décor in earthy colours; all have terraces or balconies to take in the views of the undulating mountains.
And if you book one of the nine Berber Tents, you wont be roughing it. With a plush king-sized bed, private deck and a jacuzzi with that view, you will feel like desert royalty.
For real adventure, the retreat has mule treks, quad biking, horse riding, and hikes to the nearby village – the humble home to 120 of the warm and friendly staff members, most of whom couldn’t speak English before working here.
But if you prefer to stay in – and why wouldn’t you – there is a day spa with traditional Moroccan treatments, cooking lessons, an alfresco cinema, infinity pool and a restaurant serving local and international cuisine.
Unlike Branson, we can only afford this place for a night or two… but it is well worth it.
